The Citation Group is pleased to announce the acquisition of SMAS (Safety Management Advisory Service) a household name in the world of Health & Safety accreditation.

SMAS is a dedicated Health & Safety business and a member of the Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP). Widely considered the go-to provider to the construction sector, they focus on helping businesses gain Health & Safety accreditation and assist in the tendering process.

SMAS is currently the third largest assessment scheme within the SSiP and is growing rapidly, working with over 20,000 contractors and 40 key, large-scale buyers.  Working with many of the major UK housebuilders they have developed experience and expertise in new build construction, but also deal with many other construction organisations nationwide.

This is an exciting acquisition for the group as it marks an expansion of their quality and certification offering, bolstering the acquisition of ISO accreditation business QMS back in 2015.

Understanding that for businesses to grow, as well as maintain a competitive advantage, they need to become more efficient in their processes and be able to demonstrate their business’ Health & Safety practices to recognised standards, the SMAS Worksafe accreditation perfectly complements The Citation Group’s compliance and HR offering.

Speaking on the acquisition, The Citation Group CEO Chris Morris commented:

“We’re excited to welcome SMAS to The Citation Group. As a business that prides itself on its quality of service and returning customer rate, they’re a perfect fit when it comes to how the Group measures success.

Their expertise within the construction sector means the whole Group can benefit from their knowledge and therefore strengthen our offering even further within construction. With our existing ISO accreditation offering via QMS, having SMAS as part of the family offers very exciting cross sell opportunities.”

Danny Marinou, Managing Director of SMAS:

“We are thrilled to be joining The Citation Group. The additional support and expertise SMAS Worksafe will gain access to, being part of a larger portfolio of established businesses in compliance, will aid us in our growth and help to develop our people. The additional breadth and depth of services we will now be able to offer our customers is truly powerful and we’re excited about the added-value that will enable us to deliver to our markets.”
